Gezeiten VI 1998/90

The “Tides” cycle picks up on this idea, taking it from the extreme point of standstill to one
of motion that is recurring and alternating but no longer mutually canceling. A half ring of
forged steel rests on a point of another identical half ring and passes underneath it at the

opposite point, thus transporting
a circle onto two planes in a rising
and falling motion. Similarly, two
identical steel semi-circles—slightly
set off against each other—are
assembled parallel to one another as
upward opening arcs. The weight of
a steel rod resting on their opposite
ends shifts the center of gravity of
the semicircles, pressing the non-
weighted ends upward.
