Nothing in Meyer-Rogge’s works is left
to mere speculation or chance, for the
forces upon which they are built are
unalterable and permanent. They can-
not be defied without artificial counter-
acting forces. It is the express aim of
these works to study foundation-laying
laws and forces.

Yet the sculptures take this theme even further. They expand upon these plastic aspects by po-
sing the question of motion and the course it takes. They investigate the potential for counter-
balance and also enquire into aspects such as sequence or transition onto different planes. In this
way, three-dimensional events such as loading down and bearing up, reclining and standing, or
weighting and counter-weighting become what they represent. The elements build on one another.

They create tension by concentrating on t
he only feasible points of balance, and at
the same time they relax as a result of
opposing motions or directions in angles.
